About Us

History

Originating in the summer of 2004 as the Arts Ballard Festival Choir, we performed at the Shev Shoon Arts Center for the September Ballard Art Walk event, "art'fisk 2004." We so enjoyed singing for the community that we decided to continue and began rehearsing and performing under our new name, The Market Street Singers, in October 2004. We made our debut in November at Homeward Bound, a fundraiser for the Interfaith Hospitality Network, which helps homeless people learn to provide for themselves. Since then, we have performed two to four concerts a year, brought music to retirement communities, carolled in the streets of Ballard and generally tried to fulfill our mission of building bridges through music in our community.

Repertoire

We sing an eclectic variety of choral music, from madrigals to jazz. Each season, we add exciting new material. You can find a list of some of the pieces we've performed on our website.

Artistic Director

Chris Vincent has been the artistic director of The Market Street Singers since its founding. You can find his bio here.

Join us!

The chorus rehearses under the direction of Chris Vincent, on Tuesday nights from 7 to 9 PM, at the Ballard NW Senior Center, 5429 32nd Ave NW, in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. Musical styles cover a broad spectrum, from traditional favorites to the very unusual.Choral singers of all ages and ranges (soprano, alto, tenor and bass) are encouraged to join us. Although we are a community choir in Ballard, we welcome both singing and non-singing members, no matter where you call home.
