The Market Street Singers present...  Mysteries and Miracles

The Market Street Singers invite you to once again look at winter and the holiday season with joy and awe. Take a short detour away from the year-end rush to relax and savor what is special about this time. Whether it's a new way of looking at Christmas standards, reconsidering the beauty of the approaching winter season, or chuckling at some of the funny situations we often find ourselves in during the holidays, we promise to have plenty of good music for you to hear. Even Mr. Grinch can't hold us back. And like every year, we invite you to sing along now and then - conducted by Chris Vincent and accompanied by Ingrid Verhulsdonk.  We are also happy to present our special guests, The Sound Singers Japanese Choir.  And why not take in the December Ballard Art Walk, while you're at it?

The Market Street Singers present.....
Roll Over Beethoven!

Featuring Beethoven’s “Choral Fantasy
With Ingrid Verhulsdonk, piano soloist

And for the first time, we’re performing in the U District at

University Christian Church
(4731 - 15th Ave NE)

on
Saturday, May 30 at 7:30pm
and
Sunday, May 31 at 3:00pm

After celebrating our tenth anniversary season with a musical retrospective of our first decade together, we greet 2015 by pushing new boundaries. We present a selection of new and rarely heard music, as well as Ludwig van Beethoven’s epically delightful Fantasy in C minor for Piano, Chorus, and Orchestra, commonly known as the “Choral Fantasy.” Our accompanist, Ingrid Verhulsdonk, is the featured piano soloist for this challenging work, with a festival orchestra brought together for this special production.

We proudly introduce two new works by area composers Mitchell Fund and David Reznick, along with a rarely heard choral piece by renowned American opera composer Carlyle Floyd. To this we add a new choral setting of a famous poem by Emily Dickinson and a lush arrangement of the Shaker song Simple Gifts. As a way to give voice to the downtrodden, we offer an early 17th century choral hymn from colonial era Peru, most likely composed by and for Andean native peoples and sung in the Quechua language. And we liven up the room with a rousing version of Lift Every Voice and Sing, often called the “Black American National Anthem.” This is a truly diverse concert with many surprises.

This is a FREE event. Contributions are gratefully accepted. The Market Street Singers is a 501(c)3 organization and your gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. Based in Seattle, we are registered with the Washington State’s Charities Program.

THE MARKET STREET SINGERS invite you to the 2015 edition of…
FESTIVAL OF FAVORITES: A COMMUNITY CHORAL CELEBRATION

Sunday, January 25, at 3:00pm
Ballard First Lutheran Church - Haavik Hall
NW 65th & 20th NW
(enter from parking lot to the west of the church sanctuary building)

Since 2011 The Market Street Singers has presented community sing-alongs featuring favorite choral classics, familiar “chestnuts” which singers continue to love no matter how many times they sing them. The success of these choral classics festivals has led us to offer them as ongoing events. There has recently been increased choral sing-along activity in the area and we are proud to be part of this exciting trend.

We provide the music, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the fun. Singers of all abilities are welcome, and non-singers are welcome to just show up and enjoy the music. A suggested donation of $10 will help cover expenses.

There is no need to reserve a space, but if we run out of music scores, you may have to share with someone. But isn’t this a lovely way to make friends?

SPREAD THE WORD! There is nothing better than a large crowd of happy people singing music they love, or music they are falling in love with…

You can look forward to singing things like:
Billings “Africa” - Morley “April is in My Mistress’ Face” - Mozart “Ave Verum Corpus” - Biebl “Ave Maria” - Farrant “Call to Remembrance” - Billings “David’s Lamentation” - Farmer “Fair Phyllis” - Rutter “For the Beauty of the Earth” - Tallis “If Ye Love Me” - JS Bach “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” - Lassus “Jubilate Deo” - Morley “Now is the Month of Maying” - Vittoria “O Magnum Mysterium” - Rene Clausen “Seat Me as a Seal” - Palestrina “Sicut Cervus” - “Sumer is a cumin in” - Brahms “Waldesnacht” - Bennet “Weep O Mine Eyes” - Vittoria “O Vos Omnes” – Randall Thompson “The Road Not Taken”
