THE MARKET STREET SINGERS invite you to the 2015 edition of…
FESTIVAL OF FAVORITES: A COMMUNITY CHORAL CELEBRATION
Sunday, January 25, at 3:00pm
Ballard First Lutheran Church - Haavik Hall
NW 65th & 20th NW
(enter from parking lot to the west of the church sanctuary building)
Since 2011 The Market Street Singers has presented community sing-alongs featuring favorite choral classics, familiar “chestnuts”
which singers continue to love no matter how many times they sing them.
The success of these choral classics festivals has led us to offer them
as ongoing events. There has recently been increased choral sing-along
activity in the area and we are proud to be part of this exciting trend.
We provide the music, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the fun.
Singers of all abilities are welcome, and non-singers are welcome to
just show up and enjoy the music. A suggested donation of $10 will help
cover expenses.
There is no need to reserve a space, but if we
run out of music scores, you may have to share with someone. But isn’t
this a lovely way to make friends?
SPREAD THE WORD! There is
nothing better than a large crowd of happy people singing music they
love, or music they are falling in love with…
You can look forward to singing things like:
Billings “Africa” - Morley “April is in My Mistress’ Face” - Mozart
“Ave Verum Corpus” - Biebl “Ave Maria” - Farrant “Call to Remembrance” -
Billings “David’s Lamentation” - Farmer “Fair Phyllis” - Rutter “For
the Beauty of the Earth” - Tallis “If Ye Love Me” - JS Bach “Jesu Joy of
Man’s Desiring” - Lassus “Jubilate Deo” - Morley “Now is the Month of
Maying” - Vittoria “O Magnum Mysterium” - Rene Clausen “Seat Me as a
Seal” - Palestrina “Sicut Cervus” - “Sumer is a cumin in” - Brahms

The Market Street Singers invite you to set out a
plate of cookies and a glass of milk while we wait by the chimney for Santa. In
the meantime we’ll do some seriously fun singing, enough musical goodies to
fill any of those stockings hung in a row. No lumps of coal! ALL the creatures will be stirring, even the
mice! We’ll do most of the work but you’ll get to sing a little, too.

When on September 11, 2004 we created, on
short order, a choir to do just one performance at a Ballard ArtWALK event we
couldn’t have dreamed it would eventually become one of the area’s largest and
most dynamic choral ensembles. Here we are, ten years later, serving up
gloriously beautiful choral music and pursuing a mission to build communities
with song. This concert, which brings together new members with special alumni
from the past, will be a joyful and nostalgic celebration not to be missed. As
usually we will present a little bit of everything, much of it our favorite
selections from the last ten years, and some things truly new and different.
We are thrilled to be holding this concert at
the Ballard High School Performing Arts Center, our first time at that venue.
This will provide extra space in the audience for you, and all of your friends
and family. So please save the date and spread the word.

The Market Street Singers kicks off its tenth anniversary
year with a grand, celebratory concert including the newly created vocal
ensemble, Earthrise Choir, with additional support from the Westside Unitarian
Universalist Chorale. The “Singers” will perform the ever popular “Gloria in D”
by Antonio Vivaldi with orchestral accompaniment and guest soloists Marie
Morris and Madison Cox. After some additional “graveside humor” the celebration
continues with Earthrise Choir and the WSUU Chorale who always present engaging
and thought-provoking selections. The concert closes with all voices singing
together; one large vocal ensemble joining two communities.

With All the Trimmings…
The Market Street Singers invite you to open
your musical presents, all lovingly prepared and wrapped by some of Ballard’s
most enthusiastic and energetic choristers. There will be something for
everyone, evoking everything from the high Renaissance to the fire-lit mood of
the Carpenters. Have a sample of warm pacific island treats or infectiously
happy songs about Chanukah. Strike the harp and tune up the ukulele! There are
plenty of presents to go around. And,
of course, there will be our usual holiday sing-along. And why not take in the December
Ballard Art Walk, while you’re at it?
