The Market Street Singers present:
Nowhere I’d Rather Be
You really won’t want to be anywhere else!

Saturday, September 14
7:30pm
Ballard First Lutheran Church
(NW 65th & 20th NW)

It’s easy to think of places you want to be. Some of these are so nice you might not want to be anywhere else. Join us on a musical fantasy journey to the best places you can think of. These might include ”On the Street Where You Live,” or “Walking in the Air.” You might end up “Over the Rainbow,” or even in “Seattle.” No matter where you end up you can enjoy a stylistically diverse musical journey, from the Renaissance to Rent. The Market Street Singers are always happy to take you to that very special place.

This performance falls during the Ballard Art Walk. This is a free event. Contributions gratefully accepted.

Our Upcoming Concert - May 2013

The Market Street Singers present:

Sounds Like Music
A concert about what our ears love to hear

Saturday, May 18, 7:30pm and Sunday, May 19, 3:00pm

at Ballard First Lutheran Church (NW 65th & 20th NW, across from Smokin’ Pete’s BBQ)

It’s what we do; it’s what we love. Our concerts are always about things we know best: love, life, the world and its strange and fascinating ways. We often sing about a wide range of subjects but a concert all about music itself is not common. We have prepared a diverse selection all about this beloved pastime. We’ll be singing about how we feel about music, how we make music, and how music symbolizes significant things in our lives. There will be music that is serious and fun, traditional and contemporary, new and familiar. We’ll hear music by composers such as Henry Purcell, George F. Handel, William Billings, William Schuman, Carole King, and Leonard Cohen. Even if you have had no experience as a music maker, you will find things to love in this program. And perhaps you’ll leave with a deeper feeling about how important music is to you.

This is a free event. Contributions gratefully accepted.  We are a 501(c)3 organization. Your gifts are tax-deductible to the full extent allowed by law. We are based in Seattle and registered with the Washington State’s Charities Program. Additional information is available by calling the State Charities Program at 800-332-4483.

Celebrating the joy of choral music among singers and listeners, we aspire to cultivate neighborhood pride with choral arts that are truly community identified.  For more information visit www.marketstreetsingers.org.

Community Choral Celebration

THE MARKET STREET SINGERS invite you to another…
FESTIVAL OF FAVORITES: A COMMUNITY CHORAL CELEBRATION

Saturday, January 26, at 7:30pm
Ballard First Lutheran Church
NW 65th & 20th NW (across from Smokin’ Pete’s BBQ)

In the summer of 2011 The Market Street Singers presented a community sing-along event featuring favorite choral classics, familiar “chestnuts” which singers continue to love no matter how many times they sing them. This was such a huge success that we were requested to do this again at last year’s Folklife Festival. At the festival many people asked us to do it yet again, perhaps making it a regular thing. With such enthusiastic feedback we have decided to offer this as an ongoing annual event in late January.

We’ll provide the music, all you have to do is show up and enjoy the fun. Singers of all abilities are welcome, and non-singers are welcome to just show up and enjoy the music. A suggested donation of $10 will help cover the expense of this event.

There is no need to reserve a space, but if we run out of music scores, you may have to share with someone. But isn’t this a lovely way to make friends? There is nothing better than a large crowd of happy people singing music they love.

For more information visit www.marketstreetsingers.org.

You can look forward to singing things like: Billings “Africa” - Morley “April is in My Mistress’ Face” - Mozart “Ave Verum Corpus” - Biebl “Ave Maria” - Farrant “Call to Remembrance” - Billings “David’s Lamentation” - Farmer “Fair Phyllis” - Rutter “For the Beauty of the Earth” - Tallis “If Ye Love Me” - JS Bach “Jesu Joy of Man’s Desiring” - Lassus “Jubilate Deo” - Morley “Now is the Month of Maying” - Vittoria “O Magnum Mysterium” - Rene Clausen “Seat Me as a Seal” - Palestrina “Sicut Cervus” - “Sumer is a cumin in” - Brahms “Waldesnacht” - Bennet “Weep O Mine Eyes” - Vittoria “O Vos Omnes.

The Market Street  Singers sing the music of…

Gilbert & Sullivan and Lerner & Lowe

A Ballard Artwalk Event

Saturday, September 8, 7:30pm

First Lutheran Church Ballard
(NW 65th & 20th NW, across from Smokin’ Pete’s BBQ).

Join us for a light, end-of-summer concert featuring music by two of the most popular songwriting teams in the history of music theater. Whether you’re a fan of Gilbert and Sullivan’s “topsy-turvy” light operas of the 18th century London stage, or the more contemporary Broadway and movie productions of Lerner and Lowe, you’ll enjoy many favorites and perhaps hear a new song or two. We’ll mix it up with selections from Camelot, Patience, Gigi, Iolanthe, Paint Your Wagon, The Mikado, My Fair Lady, and a slightly reinterpreted H.M.S. Pinafore.

Plenty of good humor and romance are winning combinations for a musical September evening in Ballard. Check out the Artwalk before and after the show.

This is a free event, but contributions gratefully accepted.
